What Is Going on with Rell?
Gov. Rell nominated Justice Peter Zarella, current an associate justice, to be chief justice of the Connecticut Supreme Court. That in itself is fine, as Justice Zarella is experienced and qualified. The problem comes with Gov. Rell's conduct, as she didn't even spend time to interview him about his aspirations, plans, idealogy, or anything. At least her legal counsel could have interviewed him.
The response of the Rell administration, from Adam Liegeot, a spokesman for Rell, was:
While it is true that Justice Zarella's record could, at least in part, speak for itself, it still seems unbelievable that Rell would not bother to interview the man she nominated to become the most influential judge in Connecticut. Now, she is receiving flak from both sides of the aisle. Republican Rep. O'Neill said, "Personally, I would want to sit down and look this person in the eye to be sure. It's not like they had worked side by side during the Rowland administration." The Democrats are even more critical than O'Neill, lambasting Rell for not show leadership.
As much I prefer to have Gov. Rell in office than, say, DeStefano, I'm no longer sure if the woman I voted for is the one in office. First there was her education proposal that was even too radical for the Democrat's agenda and now there is this, which reeks of utter incompetence. Even if a qualified job applicant was likely to land a certain job, I would expect the manager of the business to interview him. Doing otherwise is careless and irresponsible.

"There was no formal interview of Justice Zarella because Gov. Rell already knew him and knew of his years of state service. The governor already knew that Justice Zarella possessed an ability to issue opinions supported by the facts that were informed with fairness."

You're no longer sure the woman you voted for is in office? Maybe you should have taken the blinders of when you voted for her becasue this is exactly who she is and has always been.

I wish they could put in a real conservative like Joe Lieberman or bring back John Rowland. Granted Rowland did get hand caught in the cookie jar, but his experience in CT is priceless.

Rowland was hardly a conservative when you look at the fiscal condidition he left CT in. And Lieberman is a tool of the AFL-CIO - exactly what we need in the governor's office..NOT!

I voted for her too not so much because I was so impressed, but more so because the alternative was unacceptable to me.
However, she really now does seem to be directionless, as well as you say, almost bordering on incompetent.
I do wonder about one thing however. Her budget proposal is almost out democrating the Democrats. By opening the door to crossing the really non existent budget cap, and also raising income taxes, (you may remember it was her and Roland who originally ran for office on the platform of eliminating that same tax). She has really put a bunch of Big Whoppers in front of a lot of junk food addicts.
Predictably the Democrats take this to mean they can get her to let them tax and spend even more, if they just push her a bit.
In the end the Democrats will have morphed her original idea into something she can kill with a veto that will not get overturned. She can then blame the Democrats for pushing her original"good" idea too far, and forced her to protect the interests of us taxpayers.
Why do all that?? Well for starters it's quite possible Jimmy Amann is just not bright enough to see this possibility. The public blames the Democrats for the failure to get anything done, and in the end that black lash allows her to really be able to control the future agenda.
The problem with this line of thinking are two things. First, I suspect it is beyond her ability to think that way. Second, even I am having trouble believing my own words here. So we are then left with the looming probably that seems possibly more true than not, that she really is incompetent. Al

Speaking of tools, Bush Jr. made an absolute fool of himself in Mexico, pandering to the corrupt Mexican regime and his corporate masters back home who care less about American culture, heritage, values etc. and continually spit on the American middle class.
Memo to the faux-Texas moron (from New Haven): REAL CONSERVATIVES DO NOT SUPPORT AMNESTY OR ANY EXPANSION OF GUEST WORKER PROGRAMS!! Enough is enough! No more importation of the Third World into our communities!
