CT Republican Representatives Redeem Themselves in Washington

Down in Washington, the big issue of the day is investment taxes. The Democrats are worried at any tax cuts will hurt social programs for the poor and elderly.  Of course, most Republicans, and people in general, think that anything that allows Americans to keep more of their own money is a good thing.  While I've criticized our Connecticut Republican Representatives for being too liberal, especially on liberal issues, I've got to hand it to them on economic ones.  With an issue like this, Representatives Shays, Johnson, and Simmons all solidly support the Republican party agenda.

Chris Shays said, "dividend and capital gains cuts have had a huge impact on this economy" while reiterating his position in support of the cuts.  (Source: Courant)

Nancy Johnson argued last week that "if the tax cuts are not extended, a widow living on $35,000 a year, including $8,000 in dividend income, could see her tax bill increase by $1,200 a year." "That would be wrong," Johnson said.   (Courant)

The tax cuts should help propel the economy, and I'm glad, for once, our Republican Representatives understand completely.
